APPLICATION AND OVERCOATING
Correct surface preparation is essential prior to painting. All surfaces must be sound, free of any contaminants and prepared in the recommended manner. Refer to the Paintsmiths Surface Preparation Guidelines* for more information on surface preparation. Remember that good quality brushes and rollers go a long way to achieving a high quality durable finish. Stir paint well before use and do not thin unless specified to do so. Do not apply exterior finishes if rain is imminent. On large contracts ensure to use product from the same batch on any one elevation to prevent any shade or sheen differences.
Do not scrub freshly painted surfaces within 7 days of application. The specified over-coating time in the Product Technical Data Sheet* must be adhered to and prevailing weather conditions should be taken into account. Should any prior coats be insufficiently dry before over-coating, the paint system could fail prematurely. Factors such as ambient and substrate temperatures, substrate porosity, humidity, wind and adverse weather conditions, will all directly influence the time required for each coat to fully dry.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Always ensure good ventilation during application and drying. If there is inadequate ventilation wear suitable apparatus. Keep out of reach of children and animals. Do not eat, drink or smoke while painting. Solvent based paints are flammable – keep away from sources of ignition. Handle with care. If contact with skin occurs: wipe off excess with a cloth dampened with water or the required solvent and then wash well with soap and water. Avoid contact with eyes: in case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention. In case of ingestion: rinse mouth immediately and seek medical attention. Respiratory problems: remove affected person to fresh air immediately and contact a physician.
TRANSPORTATION & STORAGE
Always transport in a secure and upright position to avoid possible spillages. Seal part containers tightly after use and store in a cool dry place away from direct heat or sunlight. Protect from very low or high temperatures.
CLEANUP
Wipe excess paint from brushes and rollers using an absorbent cloth before washing with water or the approved solvent.
DISPOSAL
Residual paint, solvents, wash water and empty container will contaminate our environment and ground water and must be disposed of responsibly through an approved recycling scheme or your local Waste Management Company/Council. Used solvents, wash water and left over paint must never be emptied into storm water drains or directly onto the ground. Leave empty paint containers open in a well-ventilated area till residual material has dried before disposing. Collect any spills with a suitable absorbent material and dispose of residue responsibly.
